HERITAGE CENTRE EXHIBITS
World War 1 and Whimple. The Heritage Centre has an exhibition which aims to show how the Great War affected the village of Whimple and its inhabitants. It is paricularly interesting to note just how small the community was then compared to the present day.
We have acquired a number of artefacts, papers and publications from the era and volunteers have been researching the names and backgrounds of those listed on the village War Memorial. The exhibition will run for four years and will aim to reflect events as they occurred during the course of those four years of the Great War.
CHANGES TO THE HERITAGE CENTRE EXHIBITS FOR 2016
The World War 1 exhibition will be scaled down and will focus on village life in Whimple at that time. There will be a commemorative folder telling the story of all the men on the War Memorial.
A painting of the Westcountry locomotive ‘Whimple – 34025’ will be the centre piece of a revised Railway display.
Another of the late Brian Nickolls’ models ‘The House that Moved’ has been loaned to us for the season.
Finally, there will be a display featuring the life of our former President and Chairman, Richard Webber.
