The South Devon Railway is holding another of its Winter Steam Galas at February half term 2016. The SDRT Museum is again putting on a range of free children’s activities every weekday afternoon, from Monday 15 to Friday 19 February. Each will run from 1.00 to 3.00pm, and there is no need to book – just turn up on the day. Activities will include story telling and making lanterns and crowns.

All the usual free activities will also be available, including megablocks, colouring, train table and visiting the cab of our small blue steam engine, Ashley. You can make a great day out by combining a museum visit with a ride on the train, or coffee and cake in the café.

The gala itself will feature a variety of branch line trains, both passenger and goods, with intensive timetables at the weekends. On weekdays there will be short passenger trains typical of rural branch lines in days gone by.

There will be at least six steam locomotives in use during the week, including two guests: 4612 from the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, and 1450 from the Severn Valley. All of the South Devon Railway’s operation fleet will be in action: 1369, 6412, 3205 and L92. Normal SDR train fares will apply all week, but entry to the museum is free at all times. Do come along and see us! You can check on our website or Facebook page for the latest information.
