The Norman Lockyer Observatory is both a historical observatory and home to an active amateur astronomical society. It is a centre for amateur astronomy, meteorology, radio astronomy, and the promotion of science education.

From his humble position as a second rate clerk in the War Office Norman Lockyer became a renowned Victorian scientist and founding editor of the famous journal Nature. He discovered the element Helium in the Sun, wrote many books, and was Director of the Solar Physics Observatory in Kensington, before retiring to Sidmouth to found a new privately run observatory which now bears his name: The Norman Lockyer Observatory.

We hope to see many of you at this most interesting talk. As ever, the talk will take place at 10.30 for 11am in the Peter Hall, next to St Peters Church in The Lawn. Entry costs £3 to Friends of Fairlynch (don't forget your Membership Card) and £5 to the general public. Coffee and tea is included.
