Museum launches “Friends” appeal

Dawlish Museum recently announced a funding crisis and since that time, the response has been very supportive with various members of the public coming forward with offers of help. Last week we reported upon Doug Spence’s sponsored bike ride and other initiatives are currently in the pipeline.

The Museum is now launching an appeal to local businesses and organisations and letters will be delivered over the next week seeking corporate sponsorship to provide an additional stable form of income so necessary for the Museum survival. This appeal has been partly funded by a grant from the Town Council.

As explained by the Museums secretary, Liz Botterill “What we are seeking is for local businesses to rally round and support the future of what is a vital part of the Towns heritage. We are ideally seeking pledges to help us plug a funding shortfall of £6/7000 a year. We appreciate that these are difficult times but even small amounts pledged would be gratefully received and, of course, they are tax deductible for the businesses concerned.”

She also added “Whilst we are not forgetting individual support, this can simply be done by becoming a member of the museum for an annual subscription of just £10 a year and we have already seen an increase in members of the public joining since the Gazette published its article.”

The volunteers at the Museum have also been busy creating and selling a range of decorative glassware “Shades of Silk” which have been very well received, raising almost a £1000 so far this year. The next sale of these articles will be at the Strand Centre on Saturday morning.
