For the third year running the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon is delighted to be joined by the Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership for the forthcoming North Devon Heritage Photographic Competition!

Along with the North Devon Coast Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty who are involved with the Museum\'s annual Photographic Competition, the EMLP will be sponsoring their own special category.

Their category for this year is - \'Colours of Exmoor\'

The beauty of the Exmoor area throughout each season is spectacular. Winter brings stark dustings of snow, enveloping the soft hills and steep combes, contrasting against bleak angry skies. Spring heralds carpets of snowdrops and bluebells. Summer sky blues blend with the hues of the rivers and streams. Smokey Autumn browns blend with the coats of the Exmoor Pony herds and the moorland comes to life with carpets of vibrant purple heathers and clusters of brightly coloured waxcap fungi.

The Heart of Exmoor projects are about communities as well as landscape. The people who live and work with the moorland of Exmoor National Park know it best and perhaps it will be the colours of the farming calendar that capture your imagination or even one of the annual festivals, village fêtes or sporting events.

To appreciate moorland you really need to get out there and experience it and take your camera too!
