A top-rated exhibition at Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery has inspired a series of holiday activities for families this August.
Since it opened ‘Modern Masters in Print’ has had great feedback from visitors who have described it as “excellent”, “beautifully presented”, “well worth a look”, “eye opening” and “a treat”! It also received a five-star review on Trip Advisor.
The exhibition, which is on a national tour from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum, features works on paper by 20th century greats Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse.
The artists and artworks on display have been the inspiration for some family-friendly activities during the first half of August.
Children and their accompanying adults can drop in and create paper prints on Wednesday 6 August and colourful collages on Wednesday 13 August.
The drop-in sessions will run from 10.30am to 1pm with last entries at 12.30pm. Admission is free and there is no need to book. Attendees can come along for as little or as long as they like although are asked to wait a short while if the session is busy as activities will be organised on a first come first served basis.
Families can also come in and make pop art prints like Andy Warhol’s in a bookable workshop on Thursday 7 August. A further printmaking workshop will also take place on Thursday 14 August.
The bookable workshops will run from 10.30am to 12pm on both dates and there is a small charge of just £2.50 per child. Advance booking is advised via the Museum Welcome Desk or by calling 01752 304774 although any unreserved places will be available on the day.
Further drop-ins and bookable workshops based on the Museum and Art Gallery’s permanent collections will take place during the second half of August.
Two free film screenings are also on offer right at the start of the summer holidays. ‘The Lego Movie’ will be screened from 1.30pm on Wednesday 30 July while ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ will be shown from the same time on Thursday 31 July.
