Museum open for 2013 season - Museum of British Surfing

Added: 21 April 2013

The award-winning Museum of British Surfing has now re-opened for its second season at its new permanent home in Braunton, North Devon.

The main exhibition for 2013 is Sixties SURFER! It looks at the decade when modern surfing culture first arrived in Britain and will run through until December 31st.

The museum has now signed up to the 'Kids in Museums' manifesto and has a range of family friendly activities including our spotter's trail, on-site surfboard art competition and a section helping all ages understand what should and shouldn't be found on our beaches.

In addition to the main exhibition there are sections exploring surfing history in Devon, the beach environment and surfing between 1779 & 1945.

We are currently looking for donations of old surfing equipment and beach memorabilia from all eras, to help us expand our permanent public collection which is held in trust by our registered charity.

The Museum of British Surfing is staffed by volunteers, and if you'd like to get involved we'd love to hear from you. There are a range of opportunities, including front of house, events and collections management.
