Volunteers at the Totnes Fashion and Textiles Museum are celebrating the success of their recent charity fashion show. The ballroom of the Seven Stars Hotel in Totnes was packed for the Refashion show which looked at how old ideas and materials have been reused by designers over the years and traced those influences on the designers of tomorrow.

Totnes independent retailers, charity and vintage shops and local designers took up the challenge from Totnes Fashion and Textiles Museum to create an outfit linked in some way to the past. Some of the outfits could be purchased, some of them provided ideas for style on a budget and the rest showed a glimpse of future fashion.

The new designers work caused the most comment. Liora Lasallle, a local former KEVICC’s student now designing in London, showed some of her recent eye catching collection made from recycled uniforms. Textile students from KEVICC and Paignton Academy proved that the next generation of designers are very creative.

Established local designers offered a range of outfits made of sustainable and recycled materials using a range of techniques including basketry.

Local independent shops showed stylish garments drawn from past ideas and charity retailers demonstrated how to achieve a fashionable look on a budget.

The room buzzed with reactions to the surprising and original catwalk display. The raffle of prizes donated by local businesses was drawn by the Mayor of Totnes. Most importantly money was raised for the charities and many more people have now heard of the Fashion and Textiles Museum and its work.
