The Dunsford Lecture 2022 - Topsham Museum
Added: 20 January 2022
The Dunsford Lecture,
‘The Grand Tour’ by Jeremy Black
Thursday 20th January at Matthews Hall Doors open 6.45 for 7.30 start.
Following the very well received Oboussier Lecture last November we are very pleased to welcome Professor Jeremy Black who will be speaking about ‘The Grand Tour’. Jeremy Black is a well-known author and former history professor at Exeter University. The Grand Tour was the 17th and 18th century custom of taking a trip through Europe, undertaken by upper-class young men of sufficient means and rank, when they had come of age. The custom flourished from about 1660 until the advent of large-scale rail transport in the 1840s. It was associated with a standard itinerary and served as an educational rite of passage. This lecture is in memory of our past chairman John Dunsford. Seating will be distanced and the hall will be ventilated. Everyone must wear a face covering unless exempt and we recommend taking a lateral flow test before the event. You are able to reserve a seat online at Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-grand-tour-of-europe-by-professor-jeremy-black-mbe-tickets-226230019077 or come on the day, payment at the door, price per person £3.
