The river at Topsham is lovely and sixteen children aged between four and eleven years old from the Dolphin’s ‘Out of School Club’ of Pinhoe ,came to find out about it for themselves on 3rd August. They had walked through the town to look at all the buildings and after a break to catch their breath,(it is a long way from the station for those with little legs) they went into the Museum’s Riverside Garden to look at the river, the boats, the birds and the Strand houses.

In the Museum the children listened to the bird calls on the interactive wall, looked at the collection of shells and then visited the market and salmon fishing boats outside and toured the River Gallery and Sail Loft to look at more models of boats. There was also a collection of Victorian toys and costumes to explore to add to their Museum experience.

Afterwards there was a long river painting waiting for them to fill up with pictures of all they had seen, assisted by Topsham Museum volunteers. Their drawings made a wonderful collage to take back to their Club House to remind them of their day in the Museum by the River Exe.

They were very rewarding and enthusiastic visitors and we hope they will come to the Museum again.
