Volunteers Needed! Can you spare some time to help us - Topsham Museum

Volunteers needed in the Library and Research Room

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with our archives and books at the Museum.

  • Some jobs are ongoing and might suit people who like to come into the Museum to work on a regular basis. You would choose the frequency.
  • Some would be ‘one off’ and carried out in the Museum.
  • Others could be done at your home when it suits you. We could bring the items to you.

Current tasks we would like to undertake include:

  • Scanning Dorothy Holman’s sister’s diaries/scrapbooks.

Helping to update our computerised database which includes, for example, details of old books, photographs of people at work, original deeds and letters, artefacts such as Vivien Leigh’s perfume bottles, models of ships, ancient maps, Roman jewellery and a penny farthing.
  •  Sorting and recording (on paper or computer) the contents of a battered suitcase of papers which belonged to one of the original trustees.
  • Sorting and checking the inventory (on computer or paper) of a box of old documents relating to one topic eg ships and shipping, which contains ships’ logs, letters from mariners, photographs of life at sea and crew members.

If you would like to find out more or are interested in any of these tasks please contact:

Tuesday Lunchtime Lectures

For 2019 a volunteer, or volunteers, is/are now needed to run next year’s lecture programme. Assistance would be given and anyone interested may like to come to one of the lectures to see what happens and/or contact me to find out what is involved. It is anticipated that the 2019 programme will be in place before the Museum closes in October.
