WHAT A SPECIAL DAY! - Dawlish Museum
Added: 30 April 2014
Dawlish museum was re-opened for the 2014 season on Saturday, April 26th.
As 2014 is the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, the museum has extended the Piper Bill Millin exhibition. Bill's son John opened that exhibition. Mrs Mavis Stuckey a long standing steward and supporter of the museum unlocked the front door to open the museum. she was presented with flowers by Evie Moffat of Dawlish.
The pipe bands of Southampton, Plymouth, Barnstable and North Devon were in attendance and escorted by the British Legion, marched by the museum to the Lawn where they gave a wonderful musical programme, including playing as a massed band even though they had never played together before.
There was a bucket collection during the performance on the Lawn which raised over £300 for museum funds.
Despite an appaling weather forecast, the weather was actually mainly dry until the last few minutes.
Refreshment for the bands was provided by Gays Creamery, Sainsburys and the ladies of the museum.
It was agreed by the bandsmen and the people of Dawlish who attended the event that it had been a very special afternoon and one that will be remembered for some considerable time.
