Family-friendly natural history partnership, Wild About Plymouth is running a ‘Giant Big Bug Hunt’ at Ford Park Cemetery on Saturday 19 July 2014.
The free event will run from 11am to 1pm and there is no need to book in advance.
All attendees need to do is meet at the Cemetery Chapel five minutes before the start, wear appropriate clothing for the weather and remember sunscreen if it's hot!
Throughout the event Wild About Plymouth team will be searching for spiders, beetles and other creepy crawlies in the undergrowth around Ford Park Cemetery.
The Cemetery, which is steeped in history, is also a 34.5 acre urban wildlife refuge and home to a wide variety of plant, bird and insect life.
Experts from the City Museum and Art Gallery’s natural history department and Plymouth University will be on hand to help everyone identify their finds.
“With the summer holidays about to start and the weather warming up it’s a really good time to hold an event like this,” says the City Museum and Art Gallery’s natural history curator, Jan Freedman. “Ford Park Cemetery is a great venue for a bug hunt with plenty of things for people to find. Hopefully it will get them ready for some bug hunting in their own gardens too!”
