Visiting the museum during Covid 19 - Museum of British Surfing

Added: 11 August 2020

We are open Friday, Saturday & Sunday only (11am to 3pm) during these days of the Covid pandemic. We will review the opening days and times based on how visiting goes, and if we see an influx of visitors to the area, a demand for visits to the museum and any further relaxation in restrictions.

We will be welcoming visitors back to the museum using PRE-BOOKING ONLINE. This will be for family groups or groups of individuals that are allowed to interact under the governments latest advice on social interaction and social “bubbles”. You can book a 1 hour slot online and we can allow a maximum of 6 people to visit the museum at any one time. Once you have booked a slot, you will be the only visitors in the museum.

VISITING THE MUSEUM

We have made some changes to the museum to protect our visitors and volunteers. There is a perspex screen around our reception desk and signage around the museum and hand sanitising gel available at the reception desk.

If someone turns up on spec. and no other party are pre-booked then visiting will be allowed.

We still have kids activities and our very popular spotters trail and colouring competition will be available. We will have paper copies of the sheets available and give a free pen to take away to check off the items.

We will keep our entrance doors open to avoid the need for people touching handles, we will install signage reminding of social distancing, a one way system around the museum and ask people to please refrain from touching displays.

RETAIL
Our retail area is a lifeline for the museum as purchases enable us to pay our bills. We will respectfully ask visitors to only touch items that you intend to buy and we will ask customers to pack products that they wish to purchase into a bag themselves.

We prefer contactless payments by card, but can accept cash if needed.

The retail area will remain open to all and we will ask customers to observe 2 metre social distancing and not enter the retail area if there is already someone else shopping.
All our clothing will be bagged for protection and there is no trying on t-shirts/hoodies etc. as we would need to quarantine them afterwards.
We will limited the amount of stock on shelves that we have on display which will require replenishing either during quiet times during the day, or at the end of the day.

POST VISIT
After a visit is complete and at the end of the day our volunteers will wipe down door handles, the desk and interactive displays to prepare the museum for the next visitors.

We will advertise the changes and process on social media to ensure our followers and visitors understand what is happening.

We will be continuing to monitor all advice from the government and the museums sector on the process of visiting museums and make changes as appropriate.

Please bear with us as we work through these new processes as we are in uncharted water here.
